Reading the clock

Here when you need us most

Five doors. Two time zones. One clock.

Every door, right now

This is not a list somebody typed. It reads the clock against each office's own hours, and Opelika keeps Central time, an hour behind the four Georgia offices.

Reading the clock

You should not have to wait two months to be heard

Across this region, the wait to see a psychiatrist runs one to two months. That is long enough for the reason you called to pass, or to get worse, or to end somewhere nobody wanted it to end.

So we opened a walk-in clinic, and it is still the only psychiatry walk-in clinic in the area. You do not need an appointment. You do not need a referral from anyone. You need to come to Columbus between eight and four, Monday through Friday, and bring three things.

What actually happens

No surprises. This is the whole visit, start to finish.

  1. You sign in

Bring a photo ID, your insurance card, and your current medication bottles if you take any. We hand you the paperwork here, or you can fill it in before you come and skip that part.

  2. You wait, honestly

Plan on one to two hours between paperwork, checking your insurance, and the assessment itself. People are seen in the order they arrive. We will not pretend otherwise, and we will tell you where you stand.

  3. You see a real clinician

A board certified psychiatrist, or a board certified child and family psychiatric nurse practitioner. Not a screener and not a form. The person you sit with can treat you.

  4. You leave with a plan

A diagnosis if there is one, a treatment plan you agree with, prescriptions sent to your pharmacy if they are needed, and your next appointment before you go.

Yes, we very likely take your insurance

In network with more than fifty carriers, and that includes the plans most psychiatry offices in this region turn away.

Blue Cross Blue Shield Aetna Cigna UnitedHealthcare Ambetter Tricare Medicare Georgia Medicaid Alabama Medicaid and more than forty others

The four marked plans are the ones people expect to be refused. We take all four. If you are not sure what you have, bring the card and we will check it while you are here.

What we treat, and who we treat

Children, teenagers, adults and older adults. One practice, so the psychiatrist, the counselor and the autism team can actually talk to each other.

Psychiatry

Depression, anxiety, panic, ADHD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD and trauma, sleep problems, memory concerns, anger, eating disorders. Medication managed carefully, and only when it earns its place.

Children and teenagers

ADHD, aggression, anxiety and depression, autism spectrum, school trouble, bullying, isolation, social media and its damage, crisis. Seen by clinicians board certified specifically in child and adolescent psychiatry.

Counseling and psychological testing

Individual, couples, family and group therapy. Play therapy for young children. Full psychological and diagnostic testing, run by psychologists with decades in it. Open until six, and weekends by appointment.

ABA and autism care

One to one applied behavior analysis for ages two to sixteen, two to thirty hours a week, with a board certified child psychiatrist on site. Rooms built for it: an imagination room, a gym, and practice spaces set up as a grocery store, a barber shop and a doctor's office.

TMS for depression that has not responded

If two or more antidepressants have failed you, or the side effects were not livable, transcranial magnetic stimulation is a different road. No anesthesia, no sedation, and you drive yourself home. Covered by most plans including Tricare and Medicare.

Addiction and recovery

Medication assisted treatment alongside the mental health care, in one place, under one team. Our accreditation covers substance use and mental health together, because they arrive together.

Telepsychiatry and telecounseling

Fill in the form, we call to set a time that suits you, you click a link from a phone or a computer, and prescriptions go electronically to your pharmacy. For a lot of people this is the difference between care and no care.

For referring providers

Psychiatric clearance for surgery, including spinal cord stimulator and weight loss procedures, with the letter faxed to you the same day. We work as part of your patient's care team, not around it.

How we prescribe

“We manage medication safely and conservatively, only using it if we have to, and at the lowest dose that works. We focus on therapy and on the things in a life that can actually change. That is how our patients get better on no medication, or on very little.”
